In a significant step toward strengthening Bhutan’s creative industry, the Department of Media, Creative Industry and Intellectual Property (DoMCIIP) organized the country’s first-ever Essentials Training Programme for Live Sound in Thimphu from 13–16 June 2026.
The four-day programme brought together more than 20 sound technicians and audio professionals from across Bhutan to enhance their technical knowledge and practical skills in live sound production and audio system management. Led by an experienced sound engineer from India, the training combined theoretical lessons with hands-on exercises covering professional sound reinforcement, system configuration, equipment placement, and audio optimization.
Industry professionals welcomed the initiative, emphasizing that while artists often receive public recognition, sound technicians play a crucial role in ensuring the success of live performances. Participants noted that the training helped bridge important knowledge gaps, especially in an industry where many technicians have relied primarily on practical experience rather than formal education.
Founder and Creative Director of M-Studio, Choeying Jatsho, described the programme as a landmark opportunity for Bhutan’s sound professionals, while experienced technician Krishna Gajmar highlighted its value in strengthening professional confidence and improving knowledge-sharing with younger technicians.
The programme was launched through a collaboration between DoMCIIP, M-Studio, and Bhutanese singer Ugyen Dorji (Ugyen Panday) to address the lack of formal training opportunities in live sound production.
As Bhutan’s entertainment and events sector continues to grow, initiatives like this are expected to play an important role in developing a skilled technical workforce and raising the quality and professionalism of live productions across the country.
