  • Morocco Welcomes 4 Million Tourists in Strong Start to 2025.

Morocco’s tourism sector has kicked off 2025 with impressive momentum, drawing 4 million visitors by the end of March — a record-breaking figure that represents a 22% increase compared to the same period in 2024. These figures, released by the Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Social and Solidarity Economy, highlight the country’s growing appeal as a world-class travel destination.

The robust first-quarter performance underscores Morocco’s emergence as a year-round destination, a trend that has gained substantial traction since the start of the year. The country welcomed a healthy mix of visitors, with 2.1 million international tourists and 1.9 million members of the Moroccan diaspora, showcasing its wide-reaching and diverse appeal.

Remarkably, the upward trend continued in March, despite coinciding with the holy month of Ramadan. Nearly 1.4 million tourists arrived that month alone — a 17% rise compared to March 2024. This surge reflects not just seasonal interest, but also a deeper, sustained demand for Moroccan experiences.

Tourism Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor credits the growth to a dynamic transformation within the sector:

“These results highlight the significant transformation of Morocco’s tourism offerings. The sector has successfully adapted to meet the evolving and diverse expectations of travelers.”

Looking ahead, Morocco has set ambitious goals for the year. Key priorities include:

  • Enhancing air connectivity
  • Increasing hotel investments
  • Digitalizing the tourism experience
  • Spreading tourist flows more evenly across regions

All of these initiatives are aimed at reinforcing the country’s place as a top-tier global destination.

In a major push toward long-term growth, the Moroccan government has pledged over €1 billion ($1.09 billion) in public tourism investments over the next decade — not including contributions from the private sector. Much of this investment is tied to preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal.

According to Achraf Fayda, Director General of the National Office of Moroccan Tourism (ONMT):

“Morocco is transforming six cities that will host the 2030 World Cup, with half a billion euros allocated to each.”

These developments signal Morocco’s strategic commitment to strengthening its position in the Mediterranean tourism market and broadening its global reach. As the country gears up for one of the world’s most prestigious sporting events, its tourism sector appears more ready than ever to shine on the world stage.
