Trashigang is a vibrant and historically rich district located in eastern Bhutan. Known for its stunning landscapes, cultural heritage, and vibrant community, Trashigang is often referred to as the “Gateway to Eastern Bhutan.” Situated along the banks of the Gamri River, the district features a mix of rugged mountains, lush valleys, and terraced rice fields, offering visitors a picturesque and serene environment.
One of Trashigang’s key highlights is the Trashigang Dzong, an impressive fortress that stands as the spiritual and administrative center of the region. The dzong offers spectacular views of the surrounding landscapes and plays an important role in Bhutan’s governance and religious practices.
Trashigang is also famous for its rich cultural diversity, with a mix of various ethnic groups, including the Sharchops, who are the region’s original inhabitants, and the Ngalops and Lhotsampas who have migrated from other parts of Bhutan. This diversity is reflected in the district’s traditional festivals, particularly the Trashigang Tsechu, a colorful celebration of Bhutanese culture, featuring elaborate masked dances, rituals, and community gatherings.
