Jigme Dorji National Park

7 Days

Jigme Dorji National Park is one of Bhutan’s most important and scenic protected areas, located in the northwestern part of the country. Covering an area of over 4,300 square kilometers, it is the largest national park in Bhutan and plays a critical role in preserving the country’s rich biodiversity. The park was established in 1974 and named after the late King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, who is known as the “Father of Modern Bhutan.”

Situated in the central and western Himalayas, Jigme Dorji National Park spans a range of elevations, from subtropical forests in the lower valleys to alpine meadows and glacial zones at higher altitudes. This diversity of ecosystems supports an incredible variety of flora and fauna, including many rare and endangered species. Some of the park’s most notable wildlife includes the snow leopardtakin (Bhutan’s national animal), black bear, and Himalayan blue sheep. It is also home to a wide variety of birds, such as the golden eagle and pheasants, making it a haven for wildlife enthusiasts and bird watchers.
