Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be greeted with spectacular views of the Himalayas. After your arrival, you'll transfer to your hotel in Paro, where you can spend the day relaxing and adjusting to the altitude. Take the rest of the day to acclimatize and soak in the serene beauty of the Paro Valley. This is the perfect opportunity to rest and prepare for the exciting adventure that lies ahead. The peaceful atmosphere of Paro makes it an ideal starting point for your trek.
The day will begin with a visit to the iconic Paro Taktshang Monastery, also known as the Tiger’s Nest, one of Bhutan’s most sacred and recognized sites. The monastery is perched high on a cliffside, offering an exhilarating 3-4 hour hike to reach it. The views from the top are truly breathtaking, and you will feel a sense of accomplishment upon reaching this sacred spot. After descending, you will continue exploring Paro by visiting Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest monasteries, rich in history and spiritual significance. Later in the afternoon, visit Drukgyel Dzong, the Castle of the Victorious Drukpa, which has historical importance due to its role in Bhutan’s defense against invasions. The day will end with a peaceful evening in Paro, where you will spend the night at your hotel.
Your journey into the wild begins with a scenic drive to Chonana, a small village situated at an altitude of approximately 2,800 meters. The drive itself offers glimpses of Bhutan's rugged landscapes. Once you arrive in Chonana, you will begin your trek through lush forests of pine, oak, and rhododendron, with the occasional clearing offering stunning views of the mountains in the distance. The trek is moderate and allows you to slowly acclimatize as you make your way through the peaceful wilderness. After several hours of trekking, you will set up camp in the village, where you will spend the night under the stars.
On Day 4, you will continue your trek towards Jebkarpo, which lies at an altitude of about 3,400 meters. The trail will take you through alpine meadows, forests, and some steep terrain, offering fantastic panoramic views of the surrounding peaks. As you ascend higher, the vistas grow more dramatic, with the towering presence of Jomolhari in the distance. Upon reaching Jebkarpo, you will have the opportunity to rest and take in the beauty of the surroundings. The quiet, remote location of Jebkarpo allows for a perfect overnight camping experience.
The trek continues towards Milunga at an altitude of 3,800 meters. This day’s trek takes you through rugged terrain, crossing high ridges and offering breathtaking views of the snow-capped peaks of the Eastern Himalayas. As you approach Milunga, the landscape transforms into a more barren, alpine setting, and the view of Jomolhari grows even more spectacular. After a long day of trekking, you will set up camp at Milunga, where you can rest and enjoy the peaceful environment.
On Day 6, you will embark on a trek to Tong, which lies at an altitude of about 3,600 meters. The trail to Tong passes through high ridges and alpine meadows, with panoramic views of the distant mountains. Along the way, you will enjoy the fresh mountain air and serenity of the Bhutanese landscape. After several hours of trekking, you will reach Tong, where you can unwind and take in the scenic beauty of the area. It’s a great opportunity to relax and appreciate the surrounding nature. You will spend the night camping at Tong, with the crisp mountain air and clear skies above you.
Today marks the end of your trek, as you make your way down to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. The descent through lush valleys and terraced fields is a pleasant change after the challenging uphill climbs of the previous days. As you make your way into the city, you will begin to notice the transition from wilderness to urban life. In the evening, you’ll have time to explore Thimphu at your leisure. The city offers a mix of traditional Bhutanese culture and modern conveniences, and it’s the perfect place to rest and recharge. You’ll spend the night at a hotel in Thimphu.
On Day 8, you will travel from Thimphu to Wangduephodrang, a town known for its traditional Bhutanese culture and striking architecture. The journey is scenic, and upon arrival, you will visit Wangduephodrang Dzong, a majestic fortress that sits atop a hill overlooking the Pho Chhu River. This Dzong is an important historical site and offers stunning views of the surrounding valleys. You’ll have the rest of the day to explore Wangduephodrang and enjoy its peaceful atmosphere. In the evening, you will spend the night in a hotel in Wangduephodrang.
After breakfast, you will visit Punakha Dzong, one of Bhutan’s most beautiful and iconic fortresses, located at the confluence of the Pho and Mo rivers. This Dzong is not only architecturally stunning but also historically significant as it served as the seat of the central government until Thimphu became the capital. After your visit, you will drive back to Paro, where you will spend the night. Paro offers a tranquil environment and the perfect place to reflect on your Bhutanese adventure.
On your final day in Bhutan, enjoy a leisurely morning and the last views of the majestic Himalayan peaks. After breakfast, you will be transferred to Paro International Airport for your departure, taking with you memories of the incredible landscapes, cultural experiences, and serene beauty of Bhutan.
